Comparison between Group of Simultaneous Transurethral Pesection of Bladder Tumor and Prostate and Group of Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor on the Recurrence and Progression of Superficial Bladder Tumor

Abstract

|
Purpose:
Materials and Methods: For 5 years we had 11 cases of recurrence of bladder tumor after simultaneous TURBT and TURP which had inclusion criteria of histologically confirmed superficial transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) and of minimal follow-up for 12 months above. We analyzed medical records retrospectively and compared with 18 cases of recurrence after TURBT only group according to multiplicity, grade, stage, cytology and operation time.
Results: There were no statistical differences between the simultaneous TURBT and TURP group and TURBT only group in age, follow-up time, time to recurrence, multiplicity, grade, stage, operation time, progression rate except urine cytology. The recurrence rate and the median time to recurrence were 47.8% and 9 months in simultaneous group and 32.1% and 9 months in only group respectively (p=0.145).
Conclusions: Simultaneous TURBT and TURP may not affect recurrence and progression of superficial bladder tumor.
